Review: I went to see the movie because the review of the movie said that it would change what you thought about film making. This would be true if youve never seen a movie before, but that is not the case.Not to say that the movie is not good. It acts as a sort of one man play starring Tom Hardy as Ivan Locke, a man who made a mistake in his past that threatens to unwrap his perfect life when he tries to do the right thing. The movie totally relies on the actor playing the role and Tom steps up to the challenge nicely.But Ive seen this kind of one man play with Buried starring Ryan Reynolds and Brake starring Stephen Dorff. I can even mention other movies like 127hours or Phone booth that have a similar concept.What makes Locke different is that the pressure of life and death is not there. In those movies the leading (and only) men were threaten with the proposal of death, While in this movie, Ivan Lockes way of Life is threaten with change, and its this change in the concept that made the movie Quiet and low key, but the filmmakers were still able to make if fast pasted and kinetic (having it take place in a Car going down the highway helps).The movie had the same pressure of a ticking clock about to explode and the lead character attempting to talk himself out of the situation, but the filmmaker does not force the tension or thrills on you. Ivan Lockes situation is very down to earth and every day to day. Watching him attempt to deal with this situation could have come off boring after a half hour if not for Tom Hardy showing his mental acting chops (versus how physically intimidating he seemed as Bane in Dark Knight Rises, hes a small man in real life).Though the movie was good to watch I could have gotten the same effect streaming it at home on Netflix. Recommend you do the same.

Review: This review comes from someone who likes Famnily Guy and really enjoyed TED... but this new one... was... ouch... I went in expecting a few laughs but there were fewer than even my low expectations predicted. Other than the script everything is top notch. Actors are great. Charlize and Liam and Sarah Silverman etc are terrific. Its too bad they didnt have something better to work with. Liam in fact seems like hes in a different movie. Hes 100 percent serious. That might be Seths point in making a guy (himself) who is caught in the middle of a serious horrible deadly world that the west really was.It looks very good visually. Great score. But very inconsistent. Not hit and miss. More like hit and miss miss miss groan miss semi-hit miss. And the joke style kept changing. Silly to sweet to over the top and serious at times. and some of the jokes were so disgusting I dont know what they were thinking. (and i like disgusting) Plus the anachronistic style gets tired fast. And Seth as predicted should not have made himself the lead. Hes not awful but would have benefited greatly with a pro. His persona is not fit for leading man status. And his voice and style is so in step with Brians on family guy its a bit distracting. Basically the tone of this film keeps changing. The joke styles keep changing. it doesnt know what it is. Is is a sweet western romcom? Is it a satire? Is it a serious comedy? With all the success from Ted Im guessing Seth had carte blanche with this one and probably needed someone to question him more. Might be more fun if your stoned. Really really stoned. And/or maybe just see Blazing Saddles instead.

Review: If all you are looking for is an extremely strange skewed biblical account a man who has gone clinically insane in a sci-fi other world with giant rock monsters and primitive bazookas, this movie is for you!I dont really know where to start with this movie... maybe the strange hallucinations of an apocalypse befalling meat eating people. Review: After watching this film, Ive run out of glowing superlatives to describe it. First of all, a word on Matthew McConaughey. Ive always thought of him as a relative lightweight in the film world, the sexy leading man best designed for selling tickets and little else. I am happy to report that I was mistaken. Sadly, horribly mistaken. From the very first frame of this amazing movie, I was so amazed at his physical transformation that it took a half an hour just to adjust my eyes to the frail creature I saw before me. But it was real, just as his stellar performance both illuminated the way I look at the entire AIDS epidemic and the toll it takes on humanity, both gay and straight. This film happily avoided all previous clichés and typical treatments of the subject matter, transcending every other film I have seen regarding HIV/AIDS. For so long I have decried the serious lack of great film for ADULTS, with seemingly everything out today designed for pre-pubescent teenaged boys interesting in nothing more than mindless video games and moronic super hero sequels. As with many memorable independent films, this gem was elevated to heroic status with the incredible acting of McConaughey, in concert with the amazing Jaret Leto, providing the perfect foil to his perfect, character-driven role. Every, single reason for going to the movies is present in the glorious truth and humanity of this landmark effort, a must-see for anyone seeking superior acting in profusion. If theres a God in heaven, Matthew and Jaret should both win the Academy Awards for Best Performance by a Leading Man, and Best Supporting Actor. Each actor went far beyond mere acting in this film, becoming so entirely immersed into character that they stopped acting and just BECAME. Dont miss this important and moving film.

Review: The only reason I gave this a 3 out of 10 was the Bruce was in it, and so was Rain. Every time I saw a Jason Patrick I was reminded of Speed 2. Overall, not a horrible movie, but this falls under the premise of Hey Bruce agreed to do the film, and we got that rapper dude, whats his name... 50 Cent. This should be a hit! Cliché after cliché tended to ruin the flow of the story as well. Daughter in college, goes missing, dad used to be a bad-ass hit-man back in the day. Oh and he killed the bad guys wife and daughter. I think the movie would have been much better if it had been about Bruce trying to avenge his wife and daughters killer. Now that would have made for a much better movie.Poor story lines, bad script, just overall bad. I love Bruce and John Cusack but even they werent enough to save this film.

Review: Adapted by its director, Hossein Amini, from a little known novel by Patricia Highsmith The Two Faces of January turns out to be a highly satisfying tale of murder most foul very typical of Miss Highsmith. OK, so its not on the same level as The Talented Mr Ripley, Plein Soleil or Strangers on a Train but with its emphasis on plot rather than action its still a cut above a good many of todays so-called thrillers. Also typical of Highsmith is that the principal relationship in the film is between two men, (though one of them is married while the other starts to fall for the wife). The married one is Viggo Mortensen, apparently rich and touring Greece but also harboring a dark secret. The wife is pert little Kirsten Dunst and the man who falls for her is tour guide Oscar Issac. At first Issac thinks he has the upper hand, swindling Mortensen out of a few thousand dollars only to realize quite early in their relationship that he has bitten off more than he can chew. After awhile Dundsts character becomes almost redundant as the men start to play power games with each other. Whereas the male/male relationships in other Highsmith adaptations were mostly homo-erotic with at least one of the characters clearly drawn as gay. Here the relationship is meant to evoke a father and a son, (Issacs character has issues with his dead father). This slightly dilutes the dark heart of the picture. Movies like The Talented Mr Ripley and Strangers on a Train worked as well as they did because the villain was clearly homosexual and psychopathic and you never knew where his temper and jealous rages might take him. In this movie Mortensen is undoubtedly the jealous straight guy while Issac is just too nice, (hes too sweet to be a real con-man). Still, all three leading players are excellent and Amini tightens the screws very nicely as the film progresses. Filmed, for the most part, in Greece it will also prove something of a boost for the Greek Tourist Board this summer.

Review: I was able to see this before the October release and although I read some of the reviews that were released recently I started to have some reservations however, I have disagreed with some critics in the past and figured Id make up my own mind about this film. Gratefully I did not have to worry because it was time well spent. The performances were excellent and it was witty as well and engaging. When looking at the posters (without giving much away) I got the impression that this film looks like something out of a John Grisham novel or an episode of Law and Order, and while there is the trial going on, the movie is more of a focus of this mans (Downey) relationship with his father (Duvall), his family, his unresolved issues with his present life and the life he left behind. Downey and Duvall dont disappoint as well as the ensemble cast. If youre looking for a movie with heart, engaging performances and not a courtroom drama, this is definitely the right film.
